Backup & Restore
Before flashing firmware, back up your current configuration so you can recover quickly if something goes wrong.
What to back up
- VIA / Vial keymap and layer configuration: export via "Save JSON" or the equivalent feature in VIA / Vial.
- Custom macros and function keys: included in the exported JSON.
- Wireless pairing state: pairing slots for Bluefruit / DuoChord live in the module; restoring firmware usually does not wipe them, but you may need to re-pair individual devices after an upgrade.
Quick pre-flash checklist
- Downloaded firmware that exactly matches your PCB (see
Identify Your Keyboard & PCB). - Exported your current VIA / Vial configuration.
- Know how to enter bootloader on your model (see
Firmware Downloads & Flashing).
How to restore
- Keymap: import the previously exported JSON in VIA / Vial.
- Firmware rollback: download an older version for your model from the
Firmware Downloadspage and flash it back.
Common issues
- Wireless pairing lost after restore? Just pair again.
- Keys misbehave after restore? Make sure the imported JSON matches the current firmware.
